Fad Diets Are Not Recommended For Permanent Weight Loss

The best diet plan would be a simple diet plan suited to your personal needs, eating preferences, lifestyle and health. Fad diets, unbalanced diets, diet pills, diet supplements, weight loss surgery are not recommended for permanent weight loss. The best way to lose your excess fat and maintain a healthy weight for the long term is to change your way of life.

However, some diet plans have gained popularity due to extensive media coverage. These are fad diets. Some diets work for some people, others do not.  Everybody is different, what works for one does not work for another. What is important is to remember is that these types of diet plans require commitment, so if you're not ready to monitor your diet and devote a significant amount of time to planning your meals, then these types of diet plans are probably not for you.

Here's a list of diet plans that are proven to work - at least in the short-term.

  1. eDiets Diet Plan: eDiets is a very well-known diet and exercise system. eDiets has thousands of people in their program. eDiets is reasonably priced, brings results, and offers a complete plan, rather than nutrition only. eDiets also offers a free diet profile and a sample plan.
  2. Nutri-System Diet Plan: One of the difficult things of a diet is getting the nutrition stuff correct. This is even more difficult if you're not a cook and don't like spending time at a grocery store looking for ingredients and then a lot of time in the kitchen cooking up new concoctions. NutriSystem is a complete diet program. While being more expensive, it does make it easier to get the nutrition aspect correct.
  3. The Atkins Diet Plan: The the Dr. Atkins diet has become very popular, generating lots of interest (at times controversial). This diet is all about consuming very low amounts of carbohydrates (also known as the low-carb diet).
  4. The Zone Diet Plan: Although sometimes referred to as a 'fad' diet, the Zone Diet has also had much popularity. Pioneered by Dr. Barry Sears, the Zone diet emphasis a 40/30/30 combination of nutrition uptake. 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% mono-unsaturated fats.
  5. Jenny Craig Diet Plan: A commercial diet center in the mold of Weight Watchers and Diet Workshop. The Jenny Craig diet plan gets you menu choices to meet your individual needs and personal support with weekly weight loss consultations.
