Special K .. is a starvation diet.

The basic premise of the Special K diet is to substitute two regular meals with low-calorie cereal and then eat normally for the third meal. The Special K Cereal diet plan is not much different than Slim-Fast or Nestle Sweet Success. The downside is the lack of variation on the Special K diet. With other semi-liquid diets, you can choose from a variety of flavors. Marketing campaigns claim that eating two bowls of Special K cereal and a regular dinner meal will help you lose 2-3 pounds per week. This is a simple, decreased calorie diet. By following a regimen of decreased calorie consumption, any food specific diet will work the same way as the Special K diet will.

Typically it is Special K with milk and fruit twice a day, for breakfast and as replacement for lunch or dinner. Fruits or vegetables are recommended as snacks. As for snacks, an easy and quick choice are to try fruits; Apples, watermelon, bananas, tangelos, raspberries. For drinks, stick mostly with water or natural juice drinks.

Though there is nothing wrong with Special K cereal, it would not be a good as a long term diet solution. Although Special K contains many vitamins and nutrients, eating nothing more than a bowl of cereal for breakfast and lunch is simply put: a starvation diet.

Restriction diets like the Special K diets are difficult to maintain because your will power becomes weak halfway through the day which may cause you to break the diet and over-eat. If you're lucky enough to eat only the Special K cereal for breakfast and lunch, you will probably over eat at dinner. It's very tempting to binge at dinner time when you're very hungry. And the Special K diet can make you very hungry.

When trying to lose weight many dieters tend to restrict calorie consumption too much too soon, sometimes with a belief that a sudden calorie restriction will shock the body into burning fat quicker. The body does adapt to any calorie restriction quickly however, it does not force increased fat burning, greater fat burning is the result of higher fitness levels or an increased metabolism. Restricting calories too much will only result in a lowered metabolism as the body burns protein from lean muscle.

Rather than depending on Special K cereal, it's best to eat balance meals and learn how to wisely choose foods. It's very important to develop good eating habits as you lose weight so that you don't re-gain the weight you lost.
