South Beach Diet Weight Loss
The South Beach Diet is one of the most publicized diets in recent memories. The South Beach diet was created by a Florida cardiologist named Arthur Agatston. This diet can best be described as this: A diet that emphasizes natural foods, good carbohydrates, and good fats. The South Beach diet emphasizes the consumption of natural foods, in other words, foods that are as close to their natural form as possible. So what are exactly are "good" carbohydrates? Good carbohydrates are those that are close to their natural form, and not refined. In general, white carbohydrates are the less desirable ones. For example, while brown rice is healthy, white rice isn't, under the South Beach diet theory. The problem is that white foods tend to raise insulin resistance. White foods provoke an insulin response in much the same way that sugar does, which takes its toll. Eventually, the insulin response gets worn out because it has been used so much, it stops functioning. This can lead to diabetes and heart problems in the future. Eating good carbohydrates stabilizes the insulin response. This is one way in which the South Beach Diet is a big improvement on other diets such as the Atkins diet, which limits all carbs, even the good ones. If we eliminate all carbohydrates, then we may feel the need to increase our saturated fats. The South Beach diet helps in this aspect. If you're allowed to eat some carbohydrates, your diet is more varied. In regards to good fats, they are fats that carry essential acids. These acids include: omega 3's and omega 6's. Good fats also minimize saturated fats. Unlike other diets, the South Beach diet does not demand a drastic reduction in fats. Again, if you eliminate fats altogether from your diet, you have a much higher possibility of feeling deprived, and when you feel deprived, you are more likely to cheat on your diet with saturated fats. The final component of this diet is fruits. Fruits are another good source of good carbohydrates. The sugar in fruits will also help from you feeling deprived. Because fats aren't eliminated the South Beach Diet is not a rapid weight-loss diet. The South Beach diet allows you to lose your weight steadily and slowly, which is best because it can they stay off over time. The South Beach diet promotes good eating habits and good health.
